Many of us have experienced unpleasant moments in our lives that as a result , have affected our views and reactions to certain things due to past traumatic events. In this blog we'll discuss how to DEAL WITH TRAUMA TRIGGERS.
It is very easy to fall victim of your past , especially when you're faced with situations that remind you of it. When it's good we call it a Memory Trigger , but when it's bad it's called a Trauma Trigger , which is ironic because both bring about memories , the only difference is that the other trigger brings about joy whereas the other brings about negative feelings , namely , confusion, sadness, anxiety, agitation, numbness and blunted effects.
How to realise that you or someone has been triggered
• Elevated heartbeat , sweating and difficulty breathing
• Panic Attacks
• Agitation
• Physical tension , clenching of fists or jaw
• Outburst in anger or in tears , any other sad emotion.
Being triggered leaves you in a space where you feel as though you have no control over your emotionsv, you keep replaying the memory in your head and all you can do is surrender to that thought , at that moment.
Healing from these Triggers may take time and it doesn't happen overnight. It is very important that we all understand that one can be two months into dealing with Trauma Triggers and still find themselves crying when they are reminded of what happened in the past. When you are in your Trigger journey , what matters isn't how long it takes to heal , it's whether you're still responding the same way to the Triggers or you've developed a way to overcome it.
