Dealing with Depression.


Depression. How popular the word has become in very recent years. Writing this blog article we are certain that majority of you reading this piece have undergone this phase as well, at least once in your entire life. For some it will be difficult to acknowledge, and for others ? They may not even have been aware that they are DEALING WITH DEPRESSION.



In this generation , mental health discussions are being held at every corner of the world , which is satisfying as it has developed into a norm. Depression is a common mental health disorder that includes the lowering of someone's mood resulting in frequent episodes of sadness , feelings of worthlessness and lack of interest and pleasure in things that used to bring about joy.



Depression has numerous roots but just to be brief here are the most common causes :


-Childhood experiences

-Stressful life events

-Physical Health Disorder

-Social life

-Divorce or separation


As mentioned above , some may have or have had depression and may not have been aware of it , here are the major signs of depression :


-Difficulty concentrating or remembering information

-Appetite and/or weight changes

-Constant agitation

-Suicidal thoughts and/or attempts

-Loss of interest in activities

-Persistent fatigue

-Unbearable sadness , frequent crying



When we witness somebody going through depression it becomes difficult to configure exactly how they may feel, which is ironic because everybody goes through the phase

The emotion is linked to all of us. Moreover, many become masters at being able to hide the depressed state of mind in public due to the fear of being judged or embarrassed. However, it is completely human like to be in a foul mood now and time again. It becomes a problem however, when it escalates and begins to consume your whole livelihood.


But here's a twist , because depression is a real medical condition , it simply means it can be treated , whether through medicine (anti-depressants) or through social interaction and self love. Yes , self love can be used to cure depression. Many that are depressed because of separation from a partner or friend come to realise that they valued the relationship more than themselves and after the separation they have to start loving themselves which usually takes a long period of time because they have to learn how to.


When you begin a self love journey , your main enemy is depression , it is a rocky path but as time comes by you will hit rock bottom and be phased with negative thoughts but to you will be able to combat it with positive thoughts that come from loving yourself and realising that you deserve way more than waking up with puffy eyes and a wet pillow. As much as anti-depressants work , we highly recommend a dose of self love , because unlike other drugs , a large dose brings a out something positive.


Embarking on a self love journey inorder to combat depression makes one proudly independent of motivation and pity from social environments. But first you need to know that the first step to *Dealing with Depression* is to accept that indeed you are depressed instead of pretending. The sooner you accept , the quicker the healing process becomes , here's a summary

1. Accept and the feel the emotions.

2. Forgive yourself and the people that caused you harm

3. Surround yourself with positive energy

4. Allow yourself to be triggered , that's the only way to know that you are indeed making progress

5. Choose a hobby (exercise , running , etc)

6. Communicate , if you can't , start writing your emotions , find a positive outlet.


Remember it is never a bad thing to feel unhappy, needy, be in an unpleasant mood or feel DEPRESSED to sum it up. It is the act of not taking an action that is detrimental. So, whenever you battle dealing with depression, this article is definitely your weapon !
